AlphaFold Protein Structure Database
3.4 M users
Predicted structures served to millions of people who are mostly not machine-learning researchers.
Evidence and sources
Evidence
The database holds more than 260 million predictions, including protein complexes since 2026, and has been used by over 3.4 million people in 190 countries. AlphaFold 2's accuracy in the blind CASP14 assessment made it credible at once.
Still open
Dynamics. One predicted structure is one frame of a movie. BioEmu samples equilibrium ensembles to about 1 kcal/mol, and current models still favour ground states.
